Appendicitis

Appendicitis

Appendicitis is a medical emergency that occurs when the appendix, a small pouch attached to the start of the large intestine becomes inflamed. It can cause abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, and fever. Left untreated, it can lead to serious complications, such as a rupture of the appendix and infection leading to sepsis.

Surgery is recommended along with antibiotics.

Bowel obstruction

Bowel obstruction

Bowel obstructions can be caused by a variety of factors, including scar tissue from previous surgeries, tumors, hernias, impacted stool, and inflammation from conditions such as Crohn's disease. It's important to seek medical attention if you experience symptoms such as severe pain, bloating, nausea, and vomiting, as bowel obstructions can be a serious medical emergency.

Cholecystitis

Cholecystitis and biliary colic

Cholecystitis is a condition that causes inflammation of the gallbladder. Often biliary colic precedes the inflammation when a gallstone gets stuck at the outlet of the gallbladder. It is a very painful condition that causes severe abdominal pain that can radiate to the back.  Sometimes, the gallstones can block the bile ducts causing jaundice and even sepsis.

Surgery is recommended to remove the gallbladder to avoid any complications.

It is usually caused by a bacterial infection and requires drainage.  Severe infection can lead to sepsis and a significant trauma to the area.
